Subclass 300 (Prospective Marriage) is a temporary visa that gives engaged couples the opportunity to begin a life together in Australia. It allows the overseas partner of a fiancé who is an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen to come to Australia. Its main purpose is for the couple to marry in Australia, generally within nine months, and then apply for the Subclass 820/801 Partner visa on the pathway to permanent residence.

Eligibility criteria
A Subclass 300 application generally requires the following:
Eligible sponsor: Your fiancé must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen, at least 18 years old, and provide you with financial support and accommodation.
Genuine intention to marry: You must show you intend to marry and live together, generally within nine months of grant, and that your relationship is genuine.
Relationship evidence: Evidence such as communication records, time spent together, statements from family and friends, and concrete wedding preparations is provided.
Health and character: You must meet the standards, including a medical examination and police clearances from every country you have lived in for 12 months or more over the past 10 years.
Prior visa history: If a visa has previously been refused or cancelled, you must disclose this clearly in your application; otherwise problems can arise.
